The Minister of Public Works, Édgar Montaño, came out at the forefront of the denouncements of parliamentarians and considered that it will be the first time in Bolivia that they try to prosecute an authority “for enforcing the law and the citizen’s right to freedom of movement,” as he says occurred on the strike days recorded on August 8 and 9 in the department of Santa Cruz.

montano, instead of allowing free protest of citizens who are in favor of the Population and Housing Census being carried out at the end of the first semester of 2023, he went out to unblock by force leading shock groups that caused fear among the neighbors who promoted a peaceful strike.

These statements are based on the fact that Montaño was captured by the media and recognized by the neighbors forcibly lifting the locking points and intimidating neighbors, where some people were injured.

“Mr. Camacho, ‘here I am as Minister of Public Works, Do you want to prosecute a minister for cleaning up and unlocking my city, my department?’ It will be the first time in the history of Bolivia and the world, that a citizen -for defending the rights of his people- has legal actions carried out with the intention of locking him up in a prison”, questioned Montaño.

Deputy Andrew Romero indicated that the complaint against Montaño was filed, typifying the following crimes: improper use of influence, improper use of State assets, Breach of duties, criminal association, public incitement to commit a crime, criminal organization and possession, possession or carrying of non-conventional weapons.

During the 48-hour strike, Montaño took to the streets in Santa Cruz and raised the blockade points with machinery (presumably belonging to the State), an issue for which he also was criticized, since days before peasants related to masismo blocked the roads connecting the municipalities of Santa Cruz and Montaño did not appear to do something similar.

“Unlike you, Camacho, I will attend where the Justice tells me, “ affirmed the authority, at the time of accusing the Santa Cruz governor of “directing” his legislators in the Plurinational Legislative Assembly to be after his “head.”
