Monsignor Álvarez advocates for a Nicaragua “where we all reach”

In his Sunday homily this May 22, the Bishop of Matagalpa, Monsignor Rolando Álvarez Lagos, advocated the construction of a country where “we all reach”, where there are no exclusions or migrants. In addition, he pointed out that the peace that Jesus left to the world is not the peace “of oblivion, of amnesia” where historical memory is lost.

«The peace that Jesus left us is not the peace of oblivion, of amnesia… it is not the peace of the powerful who seek to impose their will at all costs, it is not the peace of repression, it is not the peace of prisons, It is not the peace of the torturer, it is not the peace of the persecutor, it is not the peace of the cemeteries”, the prelate expressed.

«Love is forgiveness, respect for the ideas of others, for the differences that we all normally and naturally have; respect for individual, constitutional, social, civil, legal, and environmental freedoms; it is the peace and love that allows us close true bonds of brotherhood where we all look at each other and feel like brothers, children of the same God with the same dignity, where we can all sit at the same table without exclusion or exclusivities and where the place the poor have it on that table, ”he added.

Call for dialogue

Monsignor Álvarez explained that it is always conducive to call for “natural, not forced dialogue” to achieve the reunion of the Nicaraguan family “without exclusion” and “create a nation that respects the dignity of the human person, justice and freedom.” .

“… and only then can we build and build a country where we all reach, where there are no excluded, where there are no migrants and where we can all live in our land, in our homeland that we love so much,” he said.

In addition, he urged that, as a country, we must work on “peace where we can look each other in the eye without being afraid, without humiliating ourselves, without feeling strange and communicating.”

Monsignor Álvarez officiated the Sunday mass alone with all the empty pews without the presence of parishioners due to the restriction imposed by the police state that keeps the Santo Cristo de Las Colinas church in Managua under siege.

The bishop of Matagalpa has been sheltered in that religious temple since last Thursday, May 19, due to the resurgence of police persecution against him. Father Harving Padilla also experiences similar moments with the police presence on the outskirts of the San Juan Bautista parish in Masaya.
