The Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalveindicated that the criminal organizations the Tren de Aragua (Venezuela), the Sinaloa Cartel (Mexico) and Jalisco Nueva Generación (Mexico) “have influence or presence” in Chile.
“We must bear in mind that three of the five most dangerous organizations in the world are found on this continent: the Aragua Train, Jalisco Nueva Generación and the Sinaloa Cartel. “The arrival of organized crime means more violence, more weapons and more homicides. The crime used to be committed by a person, now it is carried out by sophisticated organizations that plan drug trafficking, immigrant trafficking, human trafficking, smuggling or cybersecurity crimes on a large scale,” added the authority.
Monsalve expressed that “we are in a violent continent. Latin America and Central America concentrate 8% of the world’s population, but have 40% of all the homicides that occur in the world.”
He also pointed out that organized crime is “one of the main threats facing our democracy and therefore, a leftist government cannot abandon or leave the people in their hands. Security must be the priority of a leftist government.” .
“President (Gabriel Boric) has instructed us to work on a recovery plan for public spaces together with other regional authorities,” he said.
