The Government of Nicaragua reported this Tuesday that the number of people killed by covid-19 amounted to 32, and that the number of confirmed cases was established at 18,559, since the pandemic reached the country in March 2020.

The figures from the Ministry of Health remained distant from those reported by the Covid-19 Citizen Observatory network of doctors, which registers cases related to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus that are not recognized by the Nicaraguan government.

According to said observatory, the number of people who have lost their lives due to pneumonia and other symptoms of covid-19 since 2020 is 5,994, while the number of suspected cases amounts to 32,174, data that is not admitted by the authorities. .

“There was one death attributable to covid-19 and there were other deaths in people who have been under follow-up, due to pulmonary thromboembolism, diabetes mellitus, acute myocardial infarction, hypertensive crisis and bacterial pneumonia,” reported the Minsa.

The Nicaraguan authorities, who invariably report one death each week, did not explain whether the people who were “followed up” before dying had contracted covid-19.

The Ministry of Health also reported that 14,059 Nicaraguans have survived after suffering from covid-19.

More than 65% of the Nicaraguan population over the age of two already has the complete schedule of the covid-19 vaccine, while 90% have at least one dose, according to the Executive.

The Government of Nicaragua has been characterized as one of the countries that has not applied measures to prevent the spread of covid-19, a position that has brought criticism from the World Health Organization (WHO).
