Ministry of Social Development will enable housing modules for people in street situation

A loan agreement signed between the Ministry of Social Development (Mides) and the civil association Sowers of the Word will allow homeless people to access six modules as a temporary housing solution, through a self-management pilot plan. They are located in the area of ​​Punta de Rieles, in Montevideo, and have spaces for common uses, bathrooms, dining room and rooms.

Minister Martín Lema participated in the signing of the agreement, this Monday 4 at the Mides headquarters; the undersecretary, Andrea Brugman; the director of Social Protection, Fernanda Auersperg; the director of the Coordination Division of Programs for Homeless People, Gabriel Cunha; the president of the Sowers Association, Gabriel Muscarelli, and the vice president of that organization, Joaquin Lestido.

Lema reported that there will be six housing modules available to materialize the Sembradores initiative, which reinforces belonging, to ensure that people who access it feel like their own place. “It is important that they see in these modules, beyond the physical space, an opportunity to get ahead, more attention and greater dignity.“, he pointed.

He explained that the initiative is a proposal from the civil organization. “In Sembradores there are anonymous heroes who try to contain adversity every day”valued.

In addition, he emphasized the joint work with the institutions to address the problems that arise. “It is the path that will allow us to convert this cause, every day, into a fairer situation,” she indicated.

Meanwhile, Cunha reported that the modules are equipped to live and carry out activities in collective spaces. He added that two of them are destined for common uses with showers and a dining room, and the rest will function as rooms.

“We want to deepen this line, take initiatives that come from civil society and support them to give answers to people in street situations”, Indian.

The modules, located in the Punta de Rieles area, are characterized by sliding aluminum windows, a galvanized metal structure, with anti-rust paint and 50-millimeter-thick panels and pre-painted sheet metal. They also ensure thermal and acoustic insulation. They include a full bathroom with a single-command shower cabin and transfer, a ceramic toilet with a backpack and a lid, a ceramic sink, led lighting in the bathroom and environments.

The agreement with Sembradores does not imply any type of outlay for Mides.
