The Minister of Finance, Mario Marcel, addressed this Tuesday the rejection of the Chamber of Deputies to the two projects of the fifth withdrawal of the AFPs: one presented by deputies, freely available, and another by the Executive, of a limited nature. On the position of the Chamber before the first text, he said that “reason prevailed” and that it is “time when we concentrate on those structural reforms that are most important.”
“It seems to me that the most positive thing is that responsibility prevailed, reason prevailed, in terms of not pushing the country into a scenario in which the costs could have been paid by the vast majority of citizens through inflation, the higher cost of credit,” Marcel said at a press point.

“The truth is that we have already dedicated enough time, energy, and this is the moment in which we concentrate on those structural reforms that are most important”, he added.
Let us remember that the project presented by the deputies had 70 votes in favor, 70 against and 12 abstentions. It required 93 endorsements, so the House rejected the idea of legislating.
Meanwhile, the government initiative obtained 68 votes in favor, 83 against and 2 abstentions.
Insistence in the Senate?
The head of the Treasury was consulted about a possible insistence of the Executive’s project in the Senate.
“It is an issue that is going to be evaluated (…) To insist on the Senate, a very large majority is required, and therefore a fairly high degree of agreement in the Senate would be required. That is something that we have to evaluate, and about insisting on the same project,” said Marcel.
