A special minimum wage for professionals and technicians in Colombia. That is the proposal that was filed in the Congress of the Republic and that seeks that people with those academic ranks have better working and salary conditions.

The project was presented by the representative of the Liberal party Silvio José Carrasquilla and states that the professionals receive a remuneration of 3 legal minimum wages in force (3 million, taking into account the minimum of 2022 which is one million) and that technicians have a salary of 2 minimums (2 million).
“The establishment of a professional minimum wage and a technical minimum wage is in order for the professional and technical field in Colombia to have a decent payment in response to the time and efforts devoted to study during the careers.“Carrasquilla explained, according to the newspaper EL TIEMPO.

The bill clarifies that the value of these special salaries would be directly proportional to the minimum salary decreed for each year.
“Many companies in Colombia, not only in the private sector, but also in the public sector, when the services of a professional or a technician are required take advantage of the need that people have, who in turn, for that same need, end up taking the charge in an unworthy way“Carrasquilla said.

For the congressman, if a minimum wage is guaranteed for any Colombian who provides a service, it should also be done with those who have endeavored to obtain a higher education degree.

For the initiative to become law, it must pass four debates in Congress, which resumes sessions on March 16.
