The new regulatory regulations will be communicated in the framework of promoting electric mobility and the expansion of the Subite Program will be announced for the incorporation of electric motorcycles and tricycles throughout the country. The announcements will be tomorrow, Wednesday, June 1, at 9:15 a.m. , in the auditorium of the Executive Tower (Liniers 1345). Information will also be given on the news of the Subite Program to incorporate electric buses in all the departments that do not yet have these vehicles. Finally, important announcements will be made in training related to electric mobility in education.
As reported by the MIEM, “Uruguay is in a privileged position at the global level to promote its second energy transition, with an electric power generation matrix with a high participation of indigenous sources. Within this framework, the ministry is implementing various lines of work to promote, among others, electric mobility, in order to continue advancing in reducing the demand for petroleum derivatives, 70% of which is due to transportation.”
Driven by a policy that adds tax benefits, regulations, training and the necessary infrastructure, during 2021 more than 500 100% electric vehicles were marketed in Uruguay, compared to 120 vehicles of these characteristics marketed in 2020 and 38 marketed in 2019.
The objective of the Subite Program is to benefit the acquisition of electric motorcycles and cargo tricycles. Both individuals and legal entities can obtain the benefits. Among these are the reimbursement of 10% of the purchase value, a single discount of $2022 on the UTE invoice, an economic reimbursement within the framework of Energy Efficiency Certificates and the mandatory BSE insurance for one year.
These benefits are added to the main advantages of electric mobility. In this framework, it is highlighted that moving on an electric motorcycle consumes 10 times less energy than doing it on a combustion motorcycle. To this is added the reduction of CO2 emissions, the reduction of noise pollution, the use of locally generated and renewable energy, and the lower variability of energy prices.
