The Minister of Economy and Finance, Azucena Arbeleche, presented on Tuesday the growth projections of the Executive Power for the year 2022, and said that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is expected to grow by 4.5% and that the economy will rise 3.8%.
Similarly, the head of the MEF and her team announced that the Coronavirus Fund will continue to function throughout 2022, despite the fact that this was not foreseen in the Rendering of Accounts. It is estimated that some US$400 million will go to said box this year, a number that may change depending on how the pandemic progresses.
The government went from spending US$727 million in 2020 to US$1,153 million in 2021, a difference of US$426 million. They were distributed in: US$448 million in health measures (medical supplies, vaccines, COVID-19 detection tests and others); US$293 million in social support (family allowances, Uruguay Social Card, Mides baskets and others) and US$412 in work support measures (partial or total unemployment insurance, illness and reallocation of BPS collections).
Arbeleche also asserted that the fiscal deficit was reduced last year, and stood at 4.2% of GDP, 1.6 percentage points below 2020. He added that his administration hopes that said figure is close to 3.1% by close of 2022.
