The launch of the I Meeting of the Annual Bilateral Political Dialogue Mechanism between Uruguay and the United States of America, agreed last April between the Minister of Foreign Affairs Francisco Bustillo and the Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, was held this Wednesday.
The Uruguayan delegation was headed by Foreign Minister Francisco Bustillo and the United States delegation by the Assistant Secretary for the Western Hemisphere of the Department of State, Brian Nichols.
Both delegations highlighted the shared values of defending democracy, human rights, the rule of law, and international peace and security. Within this framework, the implementation of the Mechanism will allow working on issues on the bilateral agenda in a comprehensive and comprehensive manner, in priority areas such as politics, economy, trade, investment, technology, culture, education, social issues, among others. They reviewed the inconveniences derived from climate change and expressed their expectations regarding the commitments that may be reached during the COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh. The work agenda was divided into four thematic blocks: review of global and regional issues, economic issues, security issues and inclusive development. Authorities and representatives of various ministries and national agencies linked to each thematic area participated in the dialogue, which made it possible to advance in concrete agreements and promote direct contact between the counterparts of each country.
