Meeting of secondary school youth seeks to strengthen the leadership of student centers

The Alma Cívica organization and the Universidad Comunera (UCOM), with the support of the National Federation of Secondary Students, are promoting Espacio Joven, a meeting on leadership, civic and political training aimed at young secondary school students from all over the country who are members of from students. This activity will take place on Saturday, August 13, in person, in the auditorium of the UCOM from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The modules to be developed will be centered on five main thematic axes: leadership, which seeks for the participants to understand everything that being a leader implies, the opportunities and needs of civic leadership and what type of leaders the country needs. In addition, the values ​​to lead; internal fears that hold back leadership and the limits that, on some occasions, are imposed.

Another of the modules will be about trust and its importance to generate links, achieve people’s adherence and commitment; In addition, the role of the citizen, rights and obligations, citizen participation and how the government works will be discussed. Finally, experiences will be shared on two stories of youth participation and volunteering.

“Espacio Joven was born in a political context beset by various challenges; our country has the largest population of young people and it is extremely necessary to meet to talk and work on the role we are playing on this. The academy and learning spaces such as school education are not far behind. This meeting seeks to empower, mobilize, motivate and connect the civic leadership of young adolescents by creating a space where they can be placed at the center of conversations that transcend us when we talk about citizen participation, politics and democracy, recognize them and collaborate in empowering them as protagonists of rights. and social actors to increase the role they play within our society, as well as connect different student centers throughout the country to reflect and work together on these issues,” said Olga Caballero, executive director of Alma Cívica. Likewise, from Alma Cívica, they affirm that this space is an opportunity to generate synergy among students and create a strengthened network to carry out initiatives that benefit the entire community.
