Mechanic accused of strangling dentist walked several hours with the corpse

Santo Domingo.-The mechanic Jose Luis Fermin Diaz (El Chamo), accused by the Public Ministry of killing the dentist Lyda Josefina Amell Bogaert, walked the body for several hours between streets and avenues of the National District and East Santo Domingo before leaving the body in the abandoned vehicle in Quinto Centenario Avenue in the National District, in Villa Juana.

In the file deposited before the coordinating judge of the Courts of Instruction, the Public ministry narrates that on the day of her death, the dentist Amell Bogaert left her house at approximately 5:00 in the afternoon, as observed in the videos of the security cameras.

The dentist traveled in her vehicle through several streets of the National District and at 6:22, in the vicinity of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), she picked up the mechanic Fermín Díaz, who was wearing an orange T-shirt and carrying in his hands a toolbox and a pressure gauge.

Based on the recordings from the cameras of the 9-1-1 System, the coercive measure request instance indicates that the vehicle was seen at 6:56 am near the Universidad del Caribe, on the 30 de Mayo highway, and then, at 7:08 at night, he was walking through Plaza Juan Barón, on George Washington Avenue, on the Malecón in Santo Domingo.

The cameras record that at that time the vehicle was driven by Fermín Díaz, who traveled to neighboring Santo Domingo Este and then returned to the National District.

The investigations, which continue to be developed, say that during the journey that night Fermín Díaz strangled Dr. Amell Bogaert and that, after leaving the vehicle, at 8:52 p.m., he walked through the Villa Juana sector, carrying his toolbox and gauge, with no other movement around the car observed.

The Public Ministry details that the aggressor then boarded a motoconcho and went to a hotel.

In relation to the case, the Prosecutor’s Office requested preventive detention against the mechanic Fermín Díaz, El Chamo, who left the victim’s body abandoned after the event that occurred on July 27.

Judge Juan Francisco Rodríguez Consoró, of the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services, postponed the hearing to hear the coercion measure until August 10, due to the absence of the detainee’s technical defense.

The litigating prosecutor Angie Castro Rijo represented the Public Ministry before the court, whose evidence, audiovisual, documentary, material and testimonial, compromise the responsibility of Fermín Díaz, who for two and a half hours was mobilized in the vehicle with the victim for different points of Greater Santo Domingo.
