Despite being no longer associated with the Military Lyceum, Professor Sebastián Mauvezín sent a message to his former students on Saturday, declaring that he was innocent of the accusations against him in the “Penadés case.”
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Mauvezín recruited adolescents to link them with Senator Gustavo Penadés, who is being investigated for sexual exploitation of minors. In addition, the prosecutor Alicia Ghione affirmed that the case can be referred to Organized Crime since she has data that she also linked these adolescents with other adults and charged for it.
“I will show that I am being a victim and the object of a campaign of LIES and CALUMNY whose ultimate goal has been to destroy my person,” Mauvezín wrote in a message he sent to those who had been his students.
The message was sent on Saturday the 10th, at 10:12 p.m., through the Crea platform, which the teachers of the Military Lyceum use to communicate with their students. The platform is managed by Plan Ceibal. The director of the Military High School, Colonel Gustavo Etchandy, said that Ceibal has already been asked to urgently eliminate the Mauvezín user.
In addition, you have already been removed from the groups where you taught, so you will no longer be able to communicate with those students.
The teacher, who had been teaching the fourth-year history course for two years, had been dismissed three days before, on Wednesday the 7th, by the Minister of National Defense, Javier García.
In the message sent, Mauvezín said goodbye to the students, thanked them for their “understanding” and “good sense” and said that he will fight to prove his innocence: “No matter how hard the road may be, we will fight that battle.” In another passage he wrote: “Resist, insist, but NEVER give up.” The capital letters are by Mauvezín himself.
The professor also asked his former students to fight for their dreams and to always be “honest” with themselves.
He added in his farewell: “We will be tempted to look back, but I will continue walking. And wherever the walk stops in a late dawn, if I deserve it, I will search in silence for his illuminated faces in the midst of a soft winged multitude ”.

The message, sent after his dismissal, was added to other communications that caused concern in some of his students’ families.
At the beginning of the course, the professor distributed a survey through the Crea platform with some questions that were uncomfortable for part of the fourth-year group.
They were not required to respond, and some chose not to, said a relative of one of the students.
In the survey, Mauvezín asked the adolescents what expectations they had of the course and if they had pending subjects from previous years, but also other questions that were more difficult to justify in an academic approach. For example: “If you take the bus, which line do you take to go to high school?”
The relevance of this survey was discussed at a parents’ meeting attended by the director and other authorities of the Military High School.
Etchandy said to The Observer that teachers are encouraged to carry out this type of questionnaire to get to know their students better, although each one chooses the questions.
Beyond the understandable doubts generated by the question about which bus they take, there were no other complaints about Mauvezín’s behavior, the director said. “We are working with the maximum effort so that the gurises are not at risk. When the “Penadés case” broke out, Etchandy had agreed to Mauvezín’s passage on a kind of leave, during which he carried out academic work remotely, without contact with the students.
After that deadline, Etchandy tried to extend that license again, but Mauvezín showed up willing to return to the classroom and delivered a letter from his lawyer, which stated that there was no legal argument to prevent him from giving classes.
Upon reuniting with his students, Mauvezín said that he would like to answer any questions they might have about the notoriety events, but that he could not do so, a student’s relative said.
Finally, when the letter from prosecutor Ghione asking for the removal of Penadés, in which the teacher is referred to as an intermediary in cases of sexual abuse, became known, the teacher was dismissed by Minister García.
“I feel a great nostalgia when writing these lines, this strange loyalty of having to separate us,” Mauvezín said in his farewell message.
