Mari Carmen Aponte ratified as the new US Ambassador to Panama

The US Senate confirmed this Thursday, September 29, the designation of Mari Carmen Aponte as the new US Ambassador to Panama.

It should be noted that Aponte was appointed since last October 2021 by President Joe Biden. However, it was not until May 2022 that she appeared before the Senate Commission, in charge of evaluating the nominations for diplomatic positions.

Previously, she served as Ambassador to El Salvador and Acting Under Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs.

After his appointment, Panamanian President Laurentino Cortizo stated that “he will contribute to strengthening the constructive and respectful relations between our countries.”
