The 9.1.1 emergency service received a call shortly after 8:00 p.m. this Saturday. A woman had been injured in the head by a bulleton Luis Bottaro street in the Marconi neighborhood.
When the police arrived at the scene, the woman was already dead. According to witnesses, the 61 year old ladywith no criminal record, was watching television and drinking mate when the bullet (coming from outside the house) went through the door of his house and hit his head.
Both the Scientific Police and the Zone III Investigations area try to find the perpetrator, as well as understand the existence, or not, of a motive behind the murder.
According to a witness, the lady had gone to report the fire in a house days before, apparently caused by drug traffickers. Although the woman had not targeted any person or organization in particular, the police are studying whether that notice could have triggered the tragic outcome.
The President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, admitted to being “concerned” about the rise in homicides recorded so far this year. He said that while there may be problems linked to drug trafficking, one cannot distinguish between first and second class homicides.
On Wednesday, half of Lacalle Pou’s mandate will be fulfilled. According to political analysts consulted by The Observer, insecurity is one of the main challenges facing the current administration. After the drop in the most violent crimes at the beginning of the pandemic, there has now been a rebound and, according to sociologist Mariana Pomiés, “that there are more murders because we do things well is a discourse that does not last long. It’s a short-term excuse.”
