Mandate Revocation: to vote or not to vote?

One risk is that it will not be able to mobilize a significant number of citizens, even though the president’s popularity remains at considerable levels…

Many citizens wonder about the benefits of voting on April 10 in the process for the Revocation of Mandate called by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

We must remember that López Obrador’s “consultant” vocation is not new; In the first place, he organized without any legal basis the consultation for the cancellation of the International Airport of Mexico City in October 2018, at that time he voted 1% of the electoral roll; second, in August 2021 he organized the consultation to prosecute the former presidents, which obtained 8% of the vote (7 million votes). In other words, said consultation did not meet the percentage required to be binding (40%).

This would be the third citizen consultation promoted by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, which is about continuity or right? of his command.

Those who are against point out that they should not go to vote to avoid achieving 40% of the votes required to make the consultation binding and thereby legitimize AMLO’s mandate.

In this perspective, the citizen will be able to opt for the passive vote route to express their rejection of AMLO.

On the other hand, there are those who invite direct participation to show support or rejection of the López Obrador government.

In this order of ideas, for the consultation to be a success for the president, it requires two elements: the first is that more than 37 million Mexicans vote (40% of the list) and that they vote mostly for AMLO.

One risk that the Revocation of the Mandate called by President Andrés Manuel runs is that it will not be able to mobilize a significant number of citizens, although the president’s popularity remains at considerable levels.

The most incredible thing about the recall process is that it was Andrés Manuel López Obrador himself who promoted the consultation, normally it is the opposition groups that demand the Revocation of the Mandate to shorten a government mismanagement.

In any of the scenarios, it seems complicated that 40 million voters participate in the April 10 consultation to make it binding, what does not seem complicated is that the government’s electoral apparatus manages to mobilize a considerable electoral base of AMLO supporters.

In the end dear reader, you have the last word, until next time.
