The citizen representative told EL ECO that “in January 2022 we asked Mayor Carlos Moreira about the need to have a lifeguard service. In May we met with him and lifeguards, and everything seemed to be moving forward. In December he announces that there will be no such department service. We don’t understand that change. There was no lack of time, there was a lack of attention ”.
The mayor maintains that a lifeguard has now been announced in El Calabrés, because “it is a beach where two people drowned last year. But this service is needed in the eastern, central and western areas of the department, and I am going to insist because Colonia has the right to spend the summer safely”.
He mentioned that in addition to the meeting of January and May last. After learning that the lifeguard service was not going to be incorporated, “I asked for a meeting with the mayor three times, none of them attended me, my intention was to find out why he had changed his position, why he was denying the service.”
Now El Calabrés will have a lifeguard, I don’t want to speculate, but the mayor could have given in to pressure from the press and the population. I can’t find any other explanation.”
