The Maldonado Down Association will build an industrial laundry through the Social Agreements program of the Ministry of Transport and Public Works. Minister José Luis Falero highlighted the social role of the institution, which works to improve the quality of life of people with Down syndrome and generate job opportunities.
The institution serves about 30 people and three work in the laundry. The works will expand the facility’s capacity. Another larger laundry room will be built in a different location. In this way, more users will be able to access a job opportunity.
Through the Social Agreements program, the Ministry supports institutions throughout the country to repair and expand their facilities. Falero reported that in Maldonado there are seven other institutions that have requested access to an agreement.
This program has a budget of 150 million pesos per year. Efforts are made to distribute resources equitably throughout the territory, prioritizing institutions that work with people with disabilities, those that provide care to the elderly, and those that work with children.
“We distribute the resources equitably throughout the country according to the volume of the population, the number of requests and the date of presentation of the requests,” explained the Minister, who was accompanied by the Mayor Enrique Antía, the National Director of Architecture, Santiago Borsari and Mayor Andrés Rapetti.
