This Monday, April 17, during the first “Con Maduro +” program, President Nicolás Maduro appointed Sandra Oblitas as the new Minister of University Education, after the death of Tibisay Lucenalast Wednesday, April 12, who served in that position.
Maduro expressed that the former rector of the National Electoral Council (CNE) is “another distinguished Venezuelan woman, a woman of values, with a great academic background, with great institutional leadership.” For his part, Oblitas said that it is “a very big commitment, which I assume, thanking you for the trust you give me, it is a commitment that I assume with the country, a commitment with the revolution, with university education and assuming the continuity of the work of our friend and sister who recently left Tibisay Lucena”.
Sandra Oblitas is a sociologist graduated from the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) in 1994, she also has a specialization in Municipal Management. In 2003, she reached the National Electoral Council where she rose through different positions until she became the main rector and vice president of the organization from 2016 to June 2020. Then, since July 2020, Oblitas is rector of the Bolivarian University of Venezuela (UBV). replacing César Trompiz, who held the position since 2018.
During the Maduro program, he also referred to the statements by Colombian President Gustavo Peto from the UN, where he said that the objective of the summit on Venezuela in Bogotá is more democracy and zero sanctions, and affirmed that to concretize the “permanent dialogue” the sanctions on the country must be eliminated.
