The day after his victory at the polls, the President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva he began to receive calls from heads of state in different countries, all congratulating him on the election. Among the international authorities who spoke with Lula are the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, and the President of the United States, Joe Biden.
Macron posted a video of his call to Lula on his social media. The French president congratulated the Brazilian on the election. Lula responded by saying that there was a “rescue of democracy” in yesterday’s elections (30). “We are living a very happy day because we managed to rescue democracy”, he said in the brief conversation.
In the phone call with Biden, the two spoke about the strength of democracy in Brazil and, according to the US Embassy in Brazil, discussed the relationship between the two countries, especially on issues such as climate change, ensuring food security, promoting inclusion and of democracy, and the management of regional migration.
Through social networks, Sánchez reported his call to Lula. He congratulated the president-elect, wished him luck at the helm of the government and expressed his interest in working together with Brazil in the fight against poverty, hunger and climate change.
In addition to the phone calls, Lula received several congratulatory messages on Twitter. Heads of State from countries such as the Netherlands, Germany, Chile, Honduras, Paraguay, Haiti, Guatemala, Barbados, Guinea-Bissau, United Kingdom, Uruguay, Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela, Mexico, Canada and Portugal spoke on the social network, congratulating the elected president. European Union officials also congratulated the Brazilian.
