The President of Brazil, Lula Da Silvaaccepted the invitation of his Uruguayan counterpart, Luis Lacalle Pou, to visit Montevideo on January 25. This will be the first official visit of the Brazilian president to Uruguay since he took up his third term on January 1. The visit is an opportunity to strengthen ties between the two countries and work on joint projects for the benefit of their citizens.

The Uruguayan president’s invitation is not a coincidence, since Lacalle Pou attended Lula’s inauguration along with two former presidents of Uruguay, José Mujica and Julio María Sanguinetti. This gesture was highlighted nationally and internationally as a sign of the democratic health of Uruguay and as an example of how different generations, political parties and stages of the country can be represented without renouncing differences.

The bilateral agenda

The meeting between Lula and Lacalle Pou will take place one day after the Celac meeting in Buenos Aires and although the agenda for the meeting is still being prepared, more details are expected to be announced in the coming days. Both leaders are expected to address issues of common interest such as trade, investment and cooperation in key areas such as energy and technology.

Lula’s visit to Uruguay is an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the two countries and work together for a more prosperous and sustainable future for all.
