political satire “The Fluffy Ones” from Manuel Guillen, a cartoonist for La Prensa, arrives on Costa Rican television. Starting this Monday, May 16, Ticavisión will broadcast the sketches of this new Guillén project.
The animated series is a continuation of the so-called “Hulosos” from 2008, also created by the Nicaraguan cartoonist, where political life and its characters in Nicaragua were satirized.
«Los esponjosos is a continuity and a little more (of Los hulosos), not only in time but in technology, so many years ago they did not allow us certain resources that today do allow us to facilitate the work of a parody of puppets with latex, which, by the way, is a medium that takes too much work and arouses a multiplicity of efforts”, said Manuel Guillén in an interview with Confidential.

The Tico channel thanked Guillén for giving them the transmission rights for the audiovisual project, which will be broadcast at different times. According to Ticavisión, some 500,000 Nicaraguans in Costa Rica tune in to its channel.
The cartoonist explained that the series is called “Los Esponjosos” because “at some point while I was here in the United States, many years ago, I had the opportunity to express my dolls through a program on Univisión, specifically in the program of El Gordo y la Flaca, then to distance it a bit in time from what I was doing, because that was after “The Hulos”, I called him “The fluffy” and in addition, the technology in the manufacture of the dolls was different».
The material of the puppets or dolls that is used to produce the series is based on latex sponge. Guillén, through satire, lays bare the social problems related to Nicaragua and Latin American culture.
