“Look at your future in that communism”: Cubans react to a video of an old man who fainted from hunger

MIAMI, United States. – He vanishing in public thoroughfare of an elderly man from Holguin due to the hunger suffered on the Island continues to generate reactions on social networks.

After CubaNet Present the case this Thursday, thousands of users criticized the situation in the country and lamented the state of vulnerability in which the elderly survive.

“Look at your future, Cuban, in that communism. Don’t support that dictatorship anymore!”, commented on social networks the popular comedian Andy Vázquez, who shared what happened to the old man through his Facebook page Facundo Living from the Story.

Cubans inside and outside the island assured that the Castro regime should invest more in supporting low-income people than in organizing parades and political activities.

“Poor sir. Hopefully your situation improves. This is what the government should be doing, trying to solve food problems and not fooling around with a May Day parade or anything like that,” said Omar Suárez, a Cuban living in Venezuela.

Others assured that situations such as that of the elderly man from Holguin are only a small sample of the misery that exists on the Island.

“That is still little. We still have a lot to see and what we will see will be terrifying: hunger, even more than there is, disease due to lack of medicines and plagues due to lack of cleanliness. The worst thing is that this is save yourself who can because no one has to give anymore. But that nobody cares. The government washes its hands, they lack nothing.

Although the elderly man from Holguin who fainted was begging for alms, some of those who assisted him assured that he has a roof, but that he survives on a pension.

“The government has to help these people. Look how bad hygiene that Christian has. He has a checkbook, but no one lives with it because life is very hard and he is alone. He lives there in a cuartería”, said one of the people who recognized him.

“He has a house. He doesn’t drink rum, but I don’t know what happened to him,” added another of those present.

Manuel Enrique Vega Reyes, a Cuban living in Texas (United States) indicated that the unfortunate event occurred on Aguilera street, between Antonio Maceo and Libertad streets, one block from Calixto García park.

“Right on that corner there are two banks, two state cafeterias and around seven individuals. The people in green pants that you see there are workers from that bank. In that area it is common to find people lying on the ground, either sleeping or asking for money. That scene is not unusual. On one occasion I myself helped someone who fell and broke his head,” Vega Reyes commented.
