Landing strip inaugurated in Cayo Largo del Sur

Madrid Spain.- The Cuban government inaugurated this Wednesday a new runway at the Vilo Acuña international airport in Cayo Largo del Sur, on Isla de la Juventud.

“After concluding the investment process, everything is ready to receive flights soon,” Cuban Tourism Minister Juan Carlos García Granda reported on Twitter.

In addition to the paving of the runway, the facility has a new control tower, aircraft refueling system and an air terminal with capacity for 400 passengers.

The inauguration of the new runway is part of a group of important investments in Cayo Largo del Sur, relaunched as a tourist destination during the last International Tourism Fair (FITCuba 2022).

The tourist center of Cayo Largo del Sur, operated by the Gran Caribe Hotel Group, for the 2022-2023 winter season will be managed by Blue Diamond Resortsa Canadian hotel chain with a strong presence on the Island.

It currently has about 1,348 rooms. It has among its main beaches Paraíso, Sirena and Linda Mar, which offer diving options, water sports, coral observation; as well as developing a project to protect the different species of sea turtles, as an attraction for foreign visitors.

Despite the serious crisis that the country is going through, the Cuban regime does not stop this type of investment based on tourism, which unleashes discomfort in the Cuban population, lacking homes, hospitals and basic needs.

After the publication of Juan Carlos García Granda about the new landing strip, the Cubans they commented: “For this there is money”, “For this there is no justification for the blockade”.
