The President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, communicated by telephone with the President of Ukraine Volodímir Zelenski. As he reported on his Twitter account, the Uruguayan president maintained contact with the president, in what was configured as the first official communication between the leaders of the two nations.
Lacalle maintained that this morning he spoke “on the phone with the President of Ukraine. We ratify our country’s position on the Russian invasion. We offered collaboration so that this illegitimate action can be ended once and for all.”
As for Zelensky, he noted that he had “the first conversation in the history of relations between Ukraine and Uruguay. We are grateful for condemning Russia’s aggression.”
