The President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, arrived this Wednesday the 3rd at José Batlle y Ordóñez Square, in Los Cerrillos, in Canelones, to participate in the 126th anniversary of the beginning of the founding process of the city. He placed a floral offering at the foot of the monument to José Gervasio Artigas and visited the House of Culture, where he spoke with those who take the courses that are taught.
The president was accompanied by the Secretary of the Presidency, Álvaro Delgado; the general secretary of the Intendancy of Canelones, Francisco Legnani; the mayor of Los Cerrillos, Rodrigo Roncio, representatives of civil organizations and departmental authorities.
On the occasion, the protocol oratory included a speech by the member of the Historical Association August 3, 1896 Carmen Sandro, who reviewed the milestones that marked the founding process.
Later, Lacalle Pou placed a floral offering at the foot of the plaque that recalls that date as the day the Canarian city was established and its 14 founders, among whom were Máximo Tajes, Agustín Cabrera, Joaquín Bovio, Palmiro Veracierto, Francisco Berrutti , José Piñeirúa and José Fuentes.
Los Cerrillos is located 35 kilometers from Montevideo and is a municipality with more than 7,700 inhabitants. The latest data from the labor market indicate that the unemployment rate is lower than the departmental and national rates. Activity is 62.8%, employment is 59.4%, and the unemployment rate is 5.4%.
