The President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Poutransmitted to the parties that make up the coalition the disposition of the Executive Power to incorporate two modifications that Cabildo Abierto had set as a condition for voting on the pension reform.
This is the proposal to take the 20 best years to calculate the basic retirement salary, instead of the 25 established by the current project, and break down the chapter that refers to AFAP’s investments abroad.
The president announced the will of the government between Saturday and Sunday, but the Colorado Party He conveyed to him that he is not willing to vote on the changes without the reform team headed by Rodolfo Saldain explaining the magnitude of the changes.
Colored sources told The Observer that they will not support the initiative if it jeopardizes the sustainability of the system, one of the fundamental premises of the entire project.
One of the arguments, both from members of the Batllistas and from Ciudadanos, is that the members of the Executive Branch have said that this modification was unfeasible for reasons of sustainability.
The commission that studies the reform in the Chamber of Deputies will meet again this Monday at 10 in the morning. The intention is for the government team to go during the day and explain the numbers behind the modification.
The government needs the votes of the Open Cabildo and the Colorado Party to approve the project, so the negotiations will continue throughout the day.
