Labor market showed signs of improvement in December, according to the INE

The Uruguayan labor market showed signs of recovery in December, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE) that reflect that there would have been a drop in the number of unemployed people and a rise in the number of formally employed.

Employment rate: According to the INE, the percentage of people with a job, in relation to the Working Age Population (PET)— stood at 57.7% in December (totaling some 1,672,200 people). In November that indicator was at 57.2%.

Activity rate: This figure represents the population of working age that has a job or is looking for a job: in November it was 62% and in December 61.8% (a total of 1,798,700).

Unemployment rate: The INE assures that it fell from 7.4% in November to 7% in December. There were 126,000 who were in this situation in the last month of 2021.
