The Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development publishes the report “Sectorial Panorama”, which establishes that in September 2021 a total of 2,096,105 active workers were registered in the Dominican Social Security System, which translates into the incorporation of more than 225 thousand formal employees in the last 12 months.
The “Sectorial Outlook” corresponding to September 2021, which covers economic activity in the agricultural, industrial and services sectors, specifies that in relation to the month of August, there is an increase of 115,683 formal workers.
97.7% jobs reactivated
The monthly report, prepared by the Directorate of Sectorial Economic Analysis of the Vice Ministry of Economic and Social Analysis, highlights that these results indicate the reintegration of 97.7% of the employed with respect to the total retired in the months of April and May 2020 as a result of the pandemic.
Regarding trade, the report maintains that total sales deflated from the trade activity registered an increase of RD $ 22.7 billion when compared to September 2020, which is equivalent to a year-on-year increase of 19.2%.
In the same order, it adds that total sales of the trade were located above the pre-pandemic levels (1.1% compared to September 2019).
In the industrial sector, it states that local manufacturing exports amounted to US $ 134.7 million, for a year-on-year increase of 40.9%. This performance is mainly explained by the incidence of cane or beet sugar (9.3 pp), iron or steel rods (4.0 pp), plastic manufactures (2.5 pp), among other products.
Regarding free zones, the report points out that in September 2021, total exports under this regime registered a year-on-year growth of 13.7%, reaching US $ 619.9 million. It maintains that during this month 11 free zone companies were approved, mainly dedicated to call services (call centers) and tobacco processing, among others.
Agricultural goods grew 0.8 percent
In the agricultural sector, the Sectorial Outlook of the Ministry of Economy specifies that in September 2021, the volume of production of agricultural goods registered an interannual increase of 0.8%, a behavior in which the incidence of watermelon productions stands out (6.4%), banana (2.7%), banana (1.4%), pineapple (3.1%) and onion (21.6.%).
