The Departmental Federation of Urban Education Workers of La Paz (FDTEULP) instructed its affiliates this Sunday to disregard the instructions issued by the Departmental Education Service (Seduca) for the return to face-to-face classes starting this Monday.

He considered that this provision is “irresponsible” because it puts the physical and psychological integrity of the educational community at risk, since the country is going through the fourth wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

“The Departmental Federation of Urban Education Workers of La Paz, in accordance with the resolutions of the XI Ordinary Congress of the FDTEULP, given the irresponsibility of the government that ignores the objective reality and proposes the return to educational work in person, instructs the teachers from La Paz, El Alto and Provinces, the DESACATO to the instructions issued by the Departmental Directorate and maintain the modality adopted in consensus in each educational unit, “says a statement issued this Sunday by the FDTEULP.

He adds that in the event of pressure from the district directors for teachers to attend their work sources, “putting their physical and psychological integrity at risk,” they should retreat to the Social House of the Teacher.

The Seduca de La Paz ordered the return to face-to-face classes starting this Monday, the date on which the indefinite strike against Law 1386 also begins, which will be fought in the streets by the social sectors of the government mobilized to celebrate the first year management of President Luis Arce.

The determination was announced on Friday by the head of the Departmental Directorate of Education of La Paz, Carmelo López, and was immediately rejected by the teachers, who warned that there are not enough biosafety measures, especially when the country is going through the fourth wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

“The government has lyrically declared the Year of the Recovery of Education, however none of this is materialized in the facts. In the last few hours, he has released an instruction manual where he indicates that we are going to return to face-to-face and semi-face-to-face classes in El Alto, in the city, etc. However, this measure is being rejected by the teachers in fact, because there have been no biosafety conditions, ”said Leandro Mamani, leader of the urban teaching profession in La Paz.

As López explained, the return to face-to-face classes must occur in educational establishments that are located in the periphery, while the rest must continue with distance or blended classes.
