Justice Commission defined new deadlines for abortion for rape

The final report on the draft law on pregnancy in cases of rape must be approved by the plenary session of the Assembly, with 70 votes.

Next week it will reach the plenary session of the National Assembly the report of regulation for abortion by rape. This after this February 11, 2022, the Justice Commission adjusted, for the third time, the deadlines gestation to terminate the pregnancy.

– 16 weeks (four months) for women over 18 years of age

– 18 weeks (four months two weeks) for girls, adolescents and women who live in rural areas and in indigenous nationalities.

Feminist associations had proposed that do not exist deadlines since if the causal violation is already an exceptional circumstance, adding additional requirements or burdens such as time frames to access safe health services “makes access more difficult, making it even more exceptional,” says Estefanía Chávez, a lawyer surkuna ‘Center for Support and Protection of Human Rights’.

The Commission has twice reduced the deadlines; first it was 28 weeks and then 22. In the world, the time to have an abortion varies. This shows that noOr is there a single rule? (AVV)
