The President of the National Assembly, Deputy Jorge Rodríguez, assured, this Wednesday, that the former candidate Edmundo González Urrutia recognized the five Public Powers of the country by signing a letter in which he abides by the sentence issued by the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), in which the victory of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, is endorsed.
Rodriguez presented to the press the original letter signed by González Urrutia, by himself and by an eyewitness at that time.
He also proceeded to read the letter in which the former candidate recognized him as president of the National Assembly.
“The headline is already newsworthy, because it does not recognize any other National Assembly as the one that legitimately exists, which is the National Assembly of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela elected in December 2020 and which has a duration of five years like all legislative periods since the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela was approved,” he emphasized.
The President of the Legislative Branch highlighted that Gonzalez Urrutia He also admitted that the National Electoral Council (CNE) was the entity that announced the results of the elections on July 28.
“I say this emphatically because many news outlets and foreign governments that are enemies of the free, sovereign and independent Revolution of Venezuela insist that the National Electoral Council has not issued any results. Mr. González Urrutia himself acknowledges that the National Electoral Council issued a result on the night of July 28,” he added.
In the letter, the former candidate stated that “I have always been and will continue to be willing to recognize and abide by the decisions adopted by the justice bodies within the framework of the Constitution.”
The Speaker of Parliament continued reading the letter in which González stated that “I wish to convey my respect and recognition to the constitutional institutions, represented in the five branches of the State.”
“Mr. González Urrutia expresses his respect and recognition (…) of the five powers contemplated in this Constitution,” he said.
The former candidate admitted in the letter that it was his decision to leave the country “in order to consolidate peace and political dialogue.”
“He sought us out. There were no measures of any kind, as has been pointed out by foreign press agencies and sectors of the extremism that exist in Venezuela. There was no situation in which Mr. González Urrutia could feel violated. Quite the contrary, he sought us out to talk and from that conversation came his decision to leave Venezuela and request political asylum in the Kingdom of Spain, as established in the conventions regarding asylum in international norms, which Venezuela strictly respects,” said Deputy Rodríguez.
Discarding rumors
The president of the Legislative Branch dismissed in front of the press the rumors that had been spread about González Urrutia leaving the country.
“In recent days there has been a veritable barrage of gossip, rumors, opinions, and interested parties surrounding the flight of Mr. Edmundo González Urrutia from the country. Representatives of the Venezuelan State and especially of the Venezuelan Revolutionary Government have been cautious, cautious, and patient regarding the various sources that have been presented,” he said.
Telephone and face-to-face conversations
“In the days before Edmundo González left the country, we were contacted by interlocutors close to Mr. González Urrutia in order to speak with President Nicolás Maduro about Mr. González Urrutia’s desire to leave the country,” said the President of the National Assembly.
He explained that the president had commissioned him to initiate contacts with the interlocutors, as well as the executive vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, to be his representative in the conversations with the former candidate.
“These discussions led us to hold direct conversations with Mr. González Urrutia, telephone conversations and personal conversations between Mr. González Urrutia, who invited us the night before he left Venezuela to talk at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain here in Caracas,” he stressed.
It was at this diplomatic headquarters where the letter was signed and was disseminated in the morning by the national and international press.
