ISP approves emergency use of vaccine against Covid-19 from the Modern laboratory: it can be used from 12 years onwards

The Public Health Institute (ISP) approved this Wednesday the emergency use of the Moderna laboratory vaccine against Covid-19, starting at 12 years of age.

The mRNA 1273 vaccine, also known as Spikevax, has been pre-qualified by the World Health Organization (WHO), which was sufficient, in the opinion of the ISP, to validate its quality, safety and efficacy records.

Through a statement, the ISP pointed out that the vaccine “for which a two-dose primary schedule is indicated, at a recommended interval of 28 days, is approved for use, with health registration in Canada, Switzerland and, recently, in the United States, in addition to having emergency authorization in more than 50 countries, including Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, the United Kingdom and also the European Union”.

“The safety profile observed for the mRNA 1273 vaccine is considered favorable, the data analyzed to date support the conclusion that the known and potential benefits of the mRNA-1273 vaccine outweigh the known and potential risks,” they explained from the agency.

The efficacy demonstrated in the first clinical studies conducted in 2020, in participants who received the complete series of vaccines (two doses) was approximately 94%.
