“Interior Landscape”, new exhibition by the Santiago artist Alberto Lescay

The exhibition seeks to enhance his main lines of work through images of monuments and pieces of pieces in small format, as in “Espíritu Guerrero” (1996), “Monument to Mariana Grajales” (2017), “Return of Aponte” ( 2020) and the canvases “Dream” (2012), “Mother Earth” (2017) and “Augurio” (2022).

“It is what I manage to return after all those processes of assimilation of the environment, concerns, questions sometimes without an answer”, declared the 2021 National Prize for Plastic Arts.

Until May 21, the public will be able to enjoy inner landscape and confirm that the artist does not fit into pigeonholes of styles or genres.

In statements to the Cuban News Agency (ACN), Lescay said that, although many of these works are recent, he had spent a lifetime preparing the show.

Born in Santiago de Cuba, graduated from the local José Joaquín Tejada academy, from the Cubanacán National Art School and from the Repin Academy in Saint Petersburg, Lescay is the author of sculptural pieces that are part of the most notable of Cuban monuments and of Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as a non-figurative pictorial saga of highly expressive gestures, highlights his official Web.

He is also president of the Caguayo Foundation for Monumental and Applied Arts, founded 25 years ago with the aim of stimulating integration between schools of art, design and architecture as a meeting point where theoretical spaces and production converge.

Lescay is responsible for the equestrian figure of the hero Antonio Maceo in eastern Santiago de Cuba; the monument to the Cimarrón on top of a mountain near the town of El Cobre; the Monument to the Warrior Spirit, in Puerto Cabello, Venezuela, among others.
