The observatory of the Institute of Higher Trade Union Studies indicates that the education sector concentrated the bulk of the claims with 31.43%

The Labor Conflict and Trade Union Management Observatory of the Institute for Higher Trade Union Studies (inaesin) counted 143 labor conflicts in Venezuela during July, the month in which protests intensified demanding the repeal of the so-called Onapre instruction, which cut wages and social benefits by between 40% and 70%, after the wage increase decreed in March 2022 .

The education sector concentrated the bulk of the claims with 31.43%, while health workers seconded it with 22.86%. Personnel working in basic industries were active in 10.29% of the protests reported in July 2022.

Bolívar, Sucre and Aragua repeated -in that order- as the states that registered the highest number of labor conflicts with 20.8%, the first and 7.3% the second and third.

Union organizations were present in 66.86% of the claims and of the total, public sector workers were involved in 91.43%.

Claims for decent wages led with 32.02% the reasons why workers raised their voices in protest, followed by non-compliance with collective agreements with 31.46%.

This situation was reflected in the daily claims for the repeal of the Onapre instructions (Adjustment Process of the Public Administration Remuneration System, Collective Agreements, Special Tables and Strategic Companies), which represented a loss of salary of up to 70%.

The working conditions of Venezuelan teachers continue to be characterized by low salaries, little or no social security, and a deteriorated public school infrastructure.

For their part, workers in the health sector continue to fight with the intention of achieving a better salary and being paid the established bonuses, such as the night bonus and the one for Saturdays worked.

The staff of companies in Bolívar state belonging to the Venezuelan Corporation of Guayana (CVG), have also been affected. They denounce the policies of extermination of purchasing power, the precarious and deteriorated working conditions that prevent the safe exercise of their responsibilities, exposed to accidents and work-related illnesses, without the protection of life insurance, hospitalization, surgery and maternity.

In addition, workers expressed their discomfort at the arrest of seven workers from the Orinoco Steelworks (Sidor), who declared themselves idle before the reactivation of one of the plants without the workers having the minimum industrial safety implements.

Unions, workers and political leaders will continue to make themselves felt in the streets until Nicolás Maduro’s regime rectifies and repeals Onapre’s instruction 2892, which violates the rights and achievements of workers.
