Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero met with the executive president of the Council of the Americas, Susan Segal, and with businessmen from the United States, calling on them to increase investments in Argentina, highlighting the potential in the agro-industrial, energy and service-based sectors. in knowledge.
Cafiero highlighted that “The United States is a strategic trading partner of Argentina” and highlighted “the high level of competitiveness in the agro-industrial, energy and knowledge-based services sectors,” according to the Foreign Ministry in a statement.
“Being the United States the first direct foreign investor in Argentina and the third commercial partner, with long-standing American companies in the country, our interest lies in attracting new productive investments and sustaining the recovery of the economy, which in 2021 grew by around 10%”, Cafiero explained.
Within the framework of the meeting with Segal, which was also attended by representatives of the AA2000 companies; AES Argentina; CAF; Chevron; Citi Argentina; Dow Argentina; JP Morgan and Newmont Mining, Cafiero highlighted bilateral economic cooperation in lithium.
In this regard, the official stressed that “there is great potential to be a reliable supplier of this critical input in the United States production chains related to electro-mobility, renewable energy and the telecommunications industry.”
Regarding hydrocarbons, Cafiero stressed that “Argentina has been developing predictability policies with the aim of sending a clear message to production and service companies to call on them to invest in this sector, key to the development of our economy, which has great potential in Vaca Muerta.” “.
Finally, both Segal and Cafiero highlighted “the excellent level of the bilateral relationship and the open and fluid dialogue between the two governments, while they valued the principles, visions and interests shared between Argentina and the United States,” it was reported.
The Council of the Americas will hold its nineteenth edition this Thursday in the city of Buenos Aires, with the participation of governors, diplomats, officials from the country and abroad, and a panel dedicated to analyzing current energy issues.
The meeting will take place again at the Alvear hotel in person after three years, since in 2020 and 2021 the coronavirus pandemic forced it to be held remotely.
