In three months they will open four Colombian consulates in Venezuela, according to estimates by the Secretary General of the Colombian Foreign Ministry, José Antonio Salazar, reported that they hope to reopen four Colombian consulates in Venezuela in three months, one of them is San Cristóbal .

“The Colombian consul general in Venezuela has already been appointed, an ambassador with a diplomatic career who will take office before the end of this month,” Salazar said.

The first consulate to be opened will be that of San Cristóbal, later that of Maracaibo, followed by that of San Antonio and finally they will continue with those located on the border line until they reach San Fernando de Atabapo, in Amazonas.

“We believe that in three months these consulates should already be working,” said the secretary general of the Colombian Foreign Ministry.

He also declared that the necessary steps are still being taken to normalize diplomatic relations between the two countries, “which are geographically, historically and culturally united,” says a note from the Colombian Foreign Ministry.

“The national government has already appointed the consul general of Colombia in Venezuela, a diplomat who has the rank of ambassador and will take office before the end of this month, to continue with all the necessary activities to maintain harmonious binational relations,” he recalled.

Relations between Colombia and Venezuela were restored, after Gustavo Petro assumed the presidency of the neighboring country and has advocated for peace and regional integration after being elected.

Recently, the formal opening of the border between both countries took place.

In this sense, the governor of the state of Táchira, Freddy Bernal, reported that he met with the high military and police command of the state, with Land Transit and representatives of the Special Economic Border Zone, to evaluate the next steps to improve transit. vehicular.
