In his peace plan, Petro will propose a “multilateral ceasefire” of the armed groups

The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, announced that, in a few days, he will propose a multilateral ceasefire with different armed groups that have approached his government in the framework of his “total peace” project.

The president of Colombia, Gustav Petro, announced that, in a few days, he will propose a multilateral ceasefire with different armed groups that have approached his government in the framework of his “total peace” project.

“In a matter of days, a public issue will also be raised, the possibility of a multilateral ceasefire that would be the beginning of the end of the violence in Colombia”expressed Petro, this Thursday, September 22, during a press statement, from New York.

The president’s statements were made before returning to Colombia and after participating in the United Nations General Assembly.

In this sense, Petro indicated that the multilateral ceasefire proposal, “It will involve all those who want a negotiation process with the justice system in Colombia to dismantle criminal organizations. What we propose is to cease hostilities, death, cease fire.”

Likewise, the president maintained that, when the ceasefire in Colombia operates, “the Army will work, reaching the territories that it has not been able to reach before because the organizations are controlling the territory.”

Since assuming power in Colombia, Gustavo Petro has proposed an agenda for peace in his country.

In this context, he requested the participation of Governor Nicolás Maduro as guarantor of the peace negotiations with the National Liberation Army (ELN).

In a letter sent to Petro on September 13, Maduro, who accepted the request of his Colombian counterpart, offered Venezuela as the setting for the return to peace negotiations announced by the Colombian president.

“I hope that, as soon as possible, we will be able to set a date for the meeting between your government and the National Liberation Army with Venezuela as the venue,” Maduro told Petro.

The president, in the letter, stressed that, with the arrival of Petro to power in Colombia and the resumption of relations between the two countries, the objective of total peace in that country in the region will be achieved.
