This Monday, the Ministry of Women, Gender and Diversity, in the company of the Spotlight Initiative, revealed the data from the First Survey on the Prevalence of Violence against Women. In this, it is detailed that 45% of the women surveyed in the country suffer or have suffered domestic violence.
The survey, carried out with 12,152 citizens from 18 to 65 years old, in 12 provinces, asked about four types of violence, exercised in the domestic sphere: physical, psychological, sexual and economic-patrimonial. Given this, many women They claimed to have suffered some type of domestic violence, both at another time in their lives and in the last year, by a current or former partner.
Of the total of women surveyed, 45% confirmed that they are experiencing or have experienced domestic violence, that is, 1 in 2 women was a victim of violence. Psychological violence was the one that occurred in the majority of cases (42%).
The study also indicated that the majority of victims suffer more than one type of violence and that 64% of those surveyed experienced some type of episode of domestic violence by a former partner throughout their lives.
One of the most alarming data refers to sexual violence, which occurred in 18% of cases. This is not only committed by their sentimental partners, in some cases, also by relatives or close men.
In addition, 47% of the victims stated that they suffered violence in front of their children, which has serious repercussions on the mental health of these and the victim. According to the study, after experiencing violence, 10% of women They felt like ending their lives.
The study reveals that those who went through situations of violence by a former partner seek help more easily than those who have suffered or are suffering violence by their current partner.
Only 21% of the victims made the complaint
The study indicates that 60% of the respondents sought help or advice when they suffered some type of domestic violence, that is to say that the remaining 40% did not, so they live or lived these situations alone.
Also, only 21% of the women made the complaint before the justice, that is to say that four out of five women do not make the complaint.
