The president of the Montevideo department of the National Party, Economist Laura Raffo, made her first tour of the interior of the country in the framework of the elections for young white people.
“Those different employment opportunities that you are looking for, is not something that happens only here. In general, all young people in the country want to have the opportunity to develop, to find a path that allows them to fulfill their dreams. The good thing about this election of young people is that those who are elected will be able to give ideas to the National Party so that this happens,” said Raffo.
On this occasion, he toured several towns in the department of Treinta y Tres, where he explained about the representation that young people can have in the party’s directory. “They are going to be able to make proposals and they are going to be considered in the government”, he added and assured that 80% of the proposals put together by young people for the election of Lacalle Pou materialized.
The mayor of Durazno Carmelo Vidalín said a few days ago that Laura Raffo could be a possible candidate for the Presidency of the Republic for the National Party.
At a press conference in the department of Treinta y Tres, the former candidate for mayor of Montevideo thanked the praise, but said that these were not times for candidacies.
“I love when my teammates recognize my name, but we have to focus on working. You have to keep working because if you don’t, you lose focus,” said Laura Raffo at a press conference.
Mayor Vidalín declared that the current Secretary of the Presidency Álvaro Delgado is the firm candidate of the All sector of the National Party and that he will have their support. However, he also stressed that it would be good to see presidential formulas made up of women.
In addition to Laura Raffo, Vidalín mentioned other women nationalist leaders such as Vice President Beatriz Argimón or Senator Gloria Rodríguez. In the last departmental elections, Raffo presented himself as a candidate for mayor supported by the five parties that make up the ruling coalition.
The economist ruled out that it is time for candidacies and said that she prefers to concentrate on her work as leader of the Montevideo opposition, she is currently the president of the Center for Metropolitan Studies of the National Party. Last Friday, Lacalle Pou called a meeting with leaders of the Todos sector at the Prado Presidential Residence.
