Santiago. Hundreds of people marched yesterday in the Jamao al Norte municipality to denounce the contamination of the river of the same name by a pig farm, and initiate an agenda in defense of the environment and tourism in the area.
The environmentalists and demonstrators gathered in the municipal park with banners and black balloons, as a sign of mourning to denounce the contamination of the main water source in the area, and from there they marched to call the attention of the authorities of the Ministry of the Environment.
The organizers demanded that the Environment pay attention to the process of annihilation of the Jamao River due to the out-of-control operations of industrial pig farms whose waste ends up in the river.
The pollution generated by the LB Pig Farm (Luis Brache) is not only destroying the Jamao River rapidly, but also endangering the tourism activities that have been taking off in the area in recent years.
In this sense, they maintain that the farm does not have 20 workers, mostly foreigners, but that tourism is already the main activity of Jamao and its impact involves all sectors of the municipality.
