Former Colombian Foreign Minister María Ángela Holguín declared in an interview with the Financial Times that recognizing Juan Guaidó, anointed by the United States, as president was absurd.
The former chancellor of the government of Juan Manuel Santos pointed out that this decision to recognize Guaidó’s alleged interim “had no precedent in international relations.”
When referring to the reestablishment of relations with Venezuela and the government of Nicolás Maduro, Holguín established the clear difference in terms of binational relations that his nation had with the government of former President Iván Duque.
Holguín asked the current Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, that this reestablishment of international relations be done rigorously.
