In Montevideo they carried out a march from the University of the Republic to the Executive Tower where no one received them to deliver the protest proclamation, and through loudspeakers they read it.
With flags that identified which branch they belonged to and posters and parades with slogans of more salary, more resources, for teaching, the march was held that began around 10 am and at noon was in the Executive Tower.
The teacher Elbia Pereira, general secretary of the Pit-Cnt, said that “for two years, officials from the different sectors of education have been losing purchasing power according to our salaries,” and although the government “recognizes” the situation, “unfortunately” has not put the matter “on the table” with a view to accountability, which will enter parliament.
Educators point out that “teaching is dealing with overcrowded classrooms in the face of a cut of two million dollars,” according to Pereira.
