With Alfaro in charge of the technical direction, the Ecuadorian team managed to qualify for the World Cup for the fourth time in its history, but in Qatar 2022 they failed to get past the group stage.

The FEF assured that it is proud of the work carried out by Alfaro and thanked and congratulated “the great qualifying process for the Qatar 2022 World Cup”.

The president of the FEF, Francisco Egas, asserted that, when he took on the challenge of leading the federation, he proposed and built a project that had the guarantee of the exceptional potential of the players, and that with Alfaro and his coaching staff was strengthened by group with their knowledge and work.

A two-year tenure

Alfaro arrived in the Andean country at the end of August 2020, a few days after the start of the World Cup qualifiers.
