Guarantee Court of Santiago confirmed extension of 90 days investigation of the case of Valeria Vivanco due to pending expertise

The 12th Guarantee Court of Santiago confirmed the extension of the deadline in the investigation of the death of the Investigative Police (PDI) detective, Valeria Vivanco, who died on June 13, 2021 in an operation in La Granja.

According to the lawyer Juan Pablo Gómez, defender of the only defendant for the murder of Vivanco, Leonel Contreras, both parties involved in the trial agreed to request an extension of the investigations. This, since the review of some video that the sub-inspector’s family delivered was requested. This was indicated to Radio Biobio after court ruling.

“There was an agreement both with the Public Ministry and with the plaintiffs, in order to establish an extension of the term, taking into account that there is a lack of expertise to be developed, which derive mainly from the videos provided by the family of the official Vivanco and that could destroy the conclusions of the reconstitution of the scene,” he said.

For her part, the mother of the accused, Brígida Canales, insisted Radio Biobio on her son’s innocence for the crime.

“As a family we are satisfied with the consensus that has been reached in the new term, added to that the amount of information and evidence that we have as a defense that are of the utmost importance, and the deadlines to reach the truth are shortened, and that truth is that Leonel Contreras is innocent” he closed.
