AN of 2015: Dialogue cannot become a strategy of the regime to retain power

Guaidó proposes that deputies change the president (E) but not cease the interim

The opposition deputy called an extraordinary session for this Friday, December 30, at 1:00 pm, in order to continue the discussion regarding the elimination or continuity of the interim. It has been postponed on several occasions because the parliamentary fractions still have differences in this regard.

Juan Guaidó proposed that the president in charge be changed so that the interim government does not cease its functions, which was proposed by the parties Un Nuevo Tiempo (UNT), Primero y Justicia (PJ) and Acción Democrática (AD), which are the bench with a parliamentary majority within the National Assembly elected in 2015.

In a video broadcast on his Twitter account on December 29, the opposition leader pointed out that his insistence on keeping the presidency in charge has nothing to do with personal interests, but with fulfilling a constitutional duty.

«It is in their hands (AD, PJ and UNT) for being the majority bank to appoint a new board of directors. On January 5, the powers cannot be evaded or delegated with a modification of the Statute (the one that governs the Transition to Democracy). My proposal is that institutionality be defended over names. They have the votes to destroy the interim presidency, but also the votes to maintain and appoint the people who make it up. Do what your conscience dictates, but do not destroy the institutionality that our struggle requires,” said the deputy.

In this sense, he summoned the deputies of the Parliament of the opposition majority for an extraordinary session for this Friday, December 30, at 1:00 p.m., in order to continue the discussion regarding the elimination of the presidency in charge, which he He has chaired since 2019.
