Government showed its rejection of the eventual AC of Republicans against President Piñera: "It is the use of our institutions for exclusively political purposes"

During this day, the Government came out to reject the idea proposed by the group of elected deputies of the Republican Party to make a constitutional accusation against the President Sebastian Pinera.

The news circulated yesterday in Thirdwhere the party founded by Jose Antonio Kast -former presidential candidate and former helmsman of the party- is evaluating promoting this process once they take office in the Lower House on March 11. The main argument is that the current administration “lost responsibility” for what is happening in the north and south of our country.

“The President has failed all Chileans,” said the elected deputy, Mauricio Ojeda.

The Undersecretary of the Interior, John Francis Gallireferred to the scenario proposed by the Republicans: “If we have seen anything during this period of government, it is the use of our institutions for exclusively political purposes.”

The undersecretary’s annoyance lies in the fact that “an unprecedented number of constitutional accusations have been registered against ministers and the President of the Republic (he has faced two), by an opposition that used the accusations as an instrument of political damage.”

“I hope that no party lends itself to the irresponsibility of continuing with the malpractice of totally unfounded accusations and that they have a sole and exclusive purpose of political damage,” criticized the authority.

What does the current Constitution say?

According to the current Magna Carta, to raise a constitutional accusation, there must be at least 10 and a maximum of 20 deputies to raise the process. Under this slogan, the Republican Party could present it, since they have 14 seats in the Lower House.

The problem lies in the Senate, since they only have one seat, their helmsman, Red Edwards; added to the fact that they doubt that another community will join them when they are branded as extreme right.

The deputies and deputies have a period of six months to lift this proposal once the president leaves office
