The return to classes is getting closer and from the Ministry of Education (Mineduc) they warned that they will ensure that attendance returns to schools. A measure that the College of Teachers rejected due to the considerable increase in cases of Covid-19 in the country.
The Guild Leader, Carlos Diazindicated that “today, for the most part, there are no conditions to return to face-to-face classes”.
“There is no trust in parents and guardians, because there is no clarity on how the establishments are to receive students,” added Díaz.
Response from the Government
The minister(s) of the General Secretariat of the Presidency, Max Pavezreferred to Díaz’s statements, expressing that “what interests us is to support what Minister Figueroa has done, that the classes have to return, the children have to return in conditions of care”.
In addition, he added in the interview with Radio Agriculture that “the vaccination of children that was not a reality before, today it is, allows us to affirm that the conditions exist for a return to classes”.
“Does the Teachers College want people not to go back to class, do they want people not to leave their homes? If they don’t want me to leave their homes, let them say so, and there the debate is different,” criticized the Secretary of State.
“But it doesn’t make much sense that at this time we can go to the cinemas, we can go to the malls, we can go to the beaches and we can’t go to the classroom. There is no health argument for that to be the case,” he added.
“The call that we make from the Government to the College of Teachers is for them to reconsider so that they can give the correct signals for the education of our children,” he concluded.
