The government of Nicolás Maduro rejected the realization of the International Conference in solidarity with refugees and migrants Venezuela and its host countries and communitiesorganized by the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the European Union and the Canadian government.

Through a statement released on March 14 by the Chancellor Yván Gildenounced that an attempt is being made to politicize the Venezuelan migration issue and the manipulation of figures related to human mobility, “with the purpose of capturing financial resources that are not subject to accountability or audit.”

The Government rejected the call, which aims to “research huge amounts of money, in addition to being a hostile event against our country.”

For the Executive, the conference only serves the commercial interests of some of its participants. He pointed out that in similar calls, resources have been obtained that have been administered opaquely and without any accountability.

“The Venezuelan Government once again denounces the politicization of the international organizations responsible for migration, as well as the manipulation and shameless disregard for scientific rigor in the handling of migrant figures, which constitutes an attack against the rights inherent to human mobility and moves these institutions away from the mandate that has been given to them within the United Nations,” the statement reads.

He urged the United Nations System and its countries “not to be fooled by a new plan of aggression against our country.” He demanded an end to the sanctions.
