Jordan Goudreauthe former Green Beret accused of planning an invasion of Venezuela in 2020 to try to overthrow Nicolás Maduro, attacked the American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on Friday, accusing them of sabotaging his efforts to dethrone the Venezuelan leader, news agencies report.
His lawyers stated that to carry out the so-called Operation Gideon, Goudreau had the support of the government of then-President Donald Trump.
Jordan Goudreau’s attorneys stated in court papers for the first time that the decorated combat veteran had “authority from the highest levels of the executive branch” for the amphibious raid that left several fighters dead and two of his Special Forces colleagues dead. USA convicted in Venezuela after admitting their participation in those events.
The documents were filed in federal court in Tampa, where Goudreau faces gun trafficking charges.
